Matilda is a lightweight double-jointed bit with a special lock-up function. The Matilda mouthpiece has tongue relief but locks upwards, which can be beneficial for horses with a low palate and sensitive bars who still have a large tongue and prefer tongue relief.

The bit does not lock forwards like a normal lock-up bit, meaning you don't get the stiff feeling of a straight bit.

• Can be restless in the mouth on a jointed bit but too stiff on a straight bit.
• Can open its mouth and pull on the reins.
• Needs a consistent but light feel in the hand. Can overreact when you take up the reins.
• Can jump up and down in contact.
• Sensitive tongue but sharp/pointed bars.

The joints are turned away from the tongue, ensuring softer, smoother pressure on the tongue. This can be beneficial for horses that overreact when you take up the reins and need to maintain constant contact with every movement. The lightweight material provides a light feel in the hand.

A bit with tongue relief is suitable for horses with a large, sensitive tongue that may open their mouth, pull on the reins, and play with their tongue.

The Fager Matilda Titanium loose ring snaffle can also be tested during a bit fitting and/or bridle fitting; delivery time for a new bit is approximately 5 working days. It is also available as a test bit.

Titanium is a tasteless metal that naturally adapts to the temperature of the mouth, which helps the horse accept the bit better and feel more comfortable. We usually recommend a titanium bit for horses with sensitive mouths that may react to other metals, for example, with red spots or sores, despite a soft contact with the hands.

Titanium gives a super light feel in the hand and a faster response compared to a heavier bit, especially in combination with the right mouthpiece for the individual horse.
