Fager Mattias Baby Pelham
Fager Mattias Baby Pelham Sweet iron;
Mattias is a double-jointed sweet iron bit with a special lockup function. The mouthpiece has tongue relief but locks upwards, which can be good for horses with a low palate and sensitive bars who still prefer tongue relief. The bit does not lock forwards like a normal lockup bit, which means you don't get the stiff feeling of a straight bit.
- Can be restless in the mouth but become too stiff on straight bits.
- Refuses to relax into the bit.
- Requires encouragement to seek and maintain consistent contact.
- May overreact when you take up the reins.
- Unstable, but strong.
- Can jump in and out of contact.
- Available in sizes: 105 mm / 115 mm / 125 mm / 135 mm / 145 mm
The joints are turned away from the tongue, providing softer, smoother pressure on the tongue. This can be beneficial for horses that overreact when you take up the reins and need to maintain consistent contact with every movement. The sweet taste combined with stability encourages the horse to seek stable contact with the bit.
The Fager Mattias Baby Pelham can also be tested during a bit fitting and/or bridle fitting; delivery time for a new bit is approximately 5 working days. It is also available as a test bit.
Sweet Iron is a coating on top of a stainless steel bit. Its purpose is to mask the metallic taste of stainless steel and create a pleasant, sweet taste, encouraging the horse to seek more contact and hold the bit. After use, sweet iron will begin to oxidize and turn brownish-grey. Sweet Iron is a good choice for horses that need to seek more contact with the bit.
As an additional benefit, Mattias's straight and thin design ensures that the rider's aids are more effective, direct, and precise than ever before.
Baby Pelham;
The cheekpiece of the Baby Pelham provides a stable feel for horses that tend to become unstable but are still strong. The Baby Pelham can be used with a regular bridle with one or two reins, with one in the large fixed ring and one in the small ring. When using one rein, you use an (adjustable) delta strap.
With two reins, one can easily control the desired leverage of the bit by shortening or lengthening the rein attached to the bottom ring. With more leverage, you get a slightly lower neck and more effect; with less leverage, you can get the horse slightly higher in the neck with less effect. With Fager's adjustable delta strap, you have the same choice without having to use two reins.
Chain and hooks are included.
Please note: horses that are wide above the premolars/teeth may need a larger size due to the upper shanks. This is because the bridle's cheekpiece is attached to the upper shanks of the bit, which are positioned higher, where some horses are wider than others.
