Fager Mattias Baucher Sweet Iron:

Mattias is a double-jointed sweet iron bit with a special lock-up function. The mouthpiece has tongue relief but locks upwards, which can be beneficial for horses with low palates and sensitive bars who still prefer tongue relief. The bit does not lock forwards like a normal lock-up bit, meaning you don't get the stiff feel of a straight bit.

  • Can be restless in the mouth but becomes too stiff in straight bits.
  • Refuses to relax into the bit.
  • Requires encouragement to seek and maintain consistent contact.
  • May overreact when you take up the reins.
  • Can jump in and out of contact.
  • Available in sizes: 105 mm / 115 mm / 125 mm / 135 mm / 145 mm

The joints are angled away from the tongue, providing a softer, smoother pressure on the tongue. This can be beneficial for horses that overreact when you take up the reins and need to maintain consistent contact in every movement. The sweet taste combined with stability encourages the horse to seek stable contact with the bit.

The Fager Mattias baucher can also be tested during a bit fitting and/or bridle fitting; delivery time for a new bit is approximately 5 working days. It is also available as a test bit.

Sweet Iron is a coating on top of a stainless steel bit. Its purpose is to mask the metallic taste of stainless steel and create a pleasant, sweet taste, encouraging the horse to seek more contact and hold the bit. After use, sweet iron will begin to oxidize and turn brownish-gray. Sweet Iron is a good choice for horses that need to seek more contact with the bit.

As an added benefit, the straight and thin design of Mattias makes the rider's aids more effective, direct, and precise than ever before.

Baucher;

Also known as the hanging cheek bit, this is a loose-ring snaffle with a slight leverage effect that is very pleasant for horses and ponies with sensitive mouth corners or wear on the premolars (P2). The ideal solution for sensitive horses that quickly develop sores and cuts, as it protects the bars and gums by suspending the bit in the mouth. This side piece is designed to keep the mouthpiece stable and provide a framed feel. The bridle cheek pieces are attached to the upper ring, while the reins are attached to the bit ring.

Please note: horses that are wide above the premolars/teeth may need a larger size due to the upper shanks. This is because the bridle's cheekpiece is attached to the bit's upper shanks, which are placed higher up, where some horses are wider than others.
