A draw rein is used to encourage the horse to yield better and/or to prevent the horse from throwing its head up. A draw rein is always used with a regular rein, with the draw rein being an additional rein. It runs from the hand, through the bit, to the girth.

A draw rein should only be used by experienced riders.
